Saw an Anime by a studio called Disernee or something, I don't think they'll make it as the lack of fanservice was disappointing. Noodle.

Took my other half to see the original Die Hard at the cinema last weekend. Ace film, even better on the big screen Snap! Except my friends are not my other half. But yeah, a brilliant film on the big screen. Worth the £6.95 for the VIP tickets (since the only other ones left were normal seats right slap bang at the cinemas front, and I'm sure we all appreciated an extra £2 to avoid neck ache). And good lord, those sound effects of guns being fired were loud.

^ Troll Hunter is great, managed to see it in a small local art house cinema on release, was worth it.
Ugetsu Monogotari (Tales of the Rain and Moon): Finally cracked open my Kenji Mizoguchi Boxset and thought I'd go for the biggie of the set, it's based on a set of short ghost stories from 1776. I liked it if a little plodding in the middle. Another seven to go.

I saw the Devil.
A Korean film that is nasty. Really, really, REALLY nasty.
It's about a revenge obsessed cop setting out to find a murderer. It's personal since he also killed his girlfriend.
It's nasty, really nasty. Some horrible stuff in here for sure. An uncompromising look at the murderer that doesn't hold the punches... and the cop who is psychotic.
It's worth watching for how it doesn't hold back on anything. It also stars Choi Min-Sik.
6/10.
It did make me feel very uncomfortable in places and I think that was its raison d'être. Mission successful.

Vinyl
The movie telling of the hoax that Mike Peters and The Alarm MM++ pulled on the music media in 2004, by having a fake band release their song 45rpm (which charted) as the next Big Thing. Phil Daniels and Keith Allen very credible as aged punks, giving it one last go. Decent soundtrack too, plenty of the old Alarm sound shining through.
8/10

Underworld Awakening which is the 4th in the series. Another not bad if you turn your brain off sort of film and Kate Beckinsale in tight leather is always worth a watch.

Dredd which was very much style over substance. Lots of explosions, shooting and other violence and a plot that was very reminiscent of The Raid. Oddity in that you never see the face of Dredd; he keeps his helmet on for the entire film. Not bad popcorn entertainment.

Lego Movie (which was waaaay better than I was expecting it to be) and the new RoboCop, which was also pretty good considering I had VERY low expectations for it.

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter which was not so good. For an action film it was slooooow. Maybe would have benefited from tighter editing.

Hammer Of The Gods which I watched because it was on after I finished watching Kore Wa Zombie. Very violent viking era action film but which was only average if extremely brutal.

Catching Fire. Which stuck EXCEPTIONALLY close to the book and which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Throne of Blood: Japanese style Macbeth, some alterations from the play but it's still the best adaptation because that's what happens when you put Toshiro Mifune and Akira Kurosawa together.

Sherlock Holmes A Game Of Shadows which was very much in the same style as the first film. Notable for the not so pretty sight of Stephen Fry wandering around in the nude I enjoyed the first one more but this was also ok.
