Hunger games wasn't too bad, it missed out a lot that was in the book though, which is a shame.

Not today, but a few days ago I finally caught up with John Carter.
Meh... what a hodge-podge of half-baked nonsense, much of which seemed to have been lifted wholesale from other plots. Can I have those 2 hours of life back please, Disney??

I watched An American Crime with my mum last night. A pretty gruesome true crime film, but I love stuff like that so I really enjoyed it.

Silent Hill: Revelation.
Apt title - a revelation that filmmakers do not have a clue about what makes Silent Hill Silent Hill.
Taking the story of the third game, taking out everything that made it frightening, eerie and unsettling, plonking in some truly ridiculous dialogue/scenes and giving Sean Bean more time to use his American accent is a shambolic exercise in how to cheese off any remaining fans of this once great franchise.
We have the private eye, 'birthday', asylum, and fairground (not to mention that large fella with a wheelbarrow on his head, 'cause, despite his presence making no sense outside Silent Hill 2, he HAS to be used just because it's him). It's the third game's structure, and does not seem to understand the feel of any of it. The game Silent Hill 3 differed from its predecessors by using the thematic horror template that mixing the normal and abnormal together masterfully creates a fear that the normal is abnormal and the abnormal is normal. It worked by coercing the interaction of the player to examine both worlds and pass judgement through interpretation - something that is unachievable in the medium of passive entertainment.
The final ten minutes are a catastrophe. The finale not only manages to hammer the final nail in the coffin of an iconic character, but the horrific hints at a sequel which... 'Has A Man That Goes To Silent Hill To Search For His Wife' are a bigger threat to Silent Hill 2's legacy far more than the recent HD re-release shambles. Also the final two references to both Origins and Downpour were poor fan-pleasing hashes.
Good points? The decent into the otherworld is still handled by that brilliant peeling effect, and Akira Yamaoka's music from the games is still exceptional. Also the actress who played Heather (Adelaide Clemens) did actually look like her game couterpart, except for the pale, tired, sunken eyed look, that is.
It's also easy to point out that this film is also actually hindered by the march of technology; no, not through CGI nonsense, but HD itself. Silent Hill looks clean, sanitised and pure. A far cry from the purposeful grain filter employed in the games for effect. Perhaps through artistic merit in the future some filmmakers should choose not to use the best technology available and decided what best works for the theme (and genre) they are working with. Artful endeavour is, after all, more appreciated and memorable than sticking with the high tide of tech advancement.
1/10.

Just been to see OZ:The Great & Magnificent
Thoroughly enjoyed it - will be looking forward to Raimi's re-imagining of Ozma of OZ if it ever happens (which it should)

Watched Rock of Ages last night, great fun and chock full of cheesy 80's rawk, with Tom Cruise hilarious in his Axl Rose-esque role as Stacee Jaxx.

Re-watched Avengers Assemble the other day, almost been a year since i first saw that film and its still the best film i've seen in awhile. Of course Batman Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spiderman and Ted were good films last year but none those were close to Avengers for me last year ^_^
Looking forward to Iron Man 3 next week and of course staying until the end of the credits to see the next hint(s) to Phase 2.

So Iron Man 3.....Its a good film and a good sequel but is it the best film for this year? No or at least I don't think so, I think that title will go to Star Trek 2 or Thor 2. So less discuss it here: {Spoiler}I watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang the other day for the first time and I like it so I had high expectations. Within the first 10 minutes I could tell that Shane Black directed both of these movies but it did feel it was missing something that the last films had. Thankfully this film was funny something I was a little worried about but then I was a little worried there may have been a joke too far at times. Not that they weren't funny but more of the point where it was a case of you could of shaved a little bit of time off the scene if they had cut it down a little. There was one thing that bothered me about this film, basically the film is sold to you that the Mandarin is the villain of the movie but actually he's not. Turns out its just an actor that's pretending to be the Mandarin working for Aldrich Killian played by Guy Pearce. Its a shame because i think Ben Kingsley can play a great Villain but he wasn't even really the villain in this film. So that basically means the 10 Rings were only really in the first film were as in this film their fakes pretending to be the 10 Rings. Which means the prequel comic to this film was pretty much lying to us being involved.
Again I did like this movie and I would quite happily see it again in cinema and even buy it on Bluray. However cant quite see it as movie of 2013; either that will be Star Trek or maybe Thor 2 Assuming those movies don't bomb of course.

Yeah... a very enjoyable and fun film, lots of wit and LOL moments, certainly better than IM2. But yeah(#2), Trek 2 next, then Lone Ranger and Despicable Me 2 yet to come.

Yeah... a very enjoyable and fun film, lots of wit and LOL moments, certainly better than IM2. But yeah(#2), Trek 2 next, then Lone Ranger and Despicable Me 2 yet to come. Well Lone Ranger looks good but Johnny Depp pretty much looks the same as he did in Pirates. Not to surprising since its been made by the same people who made the pirates movies. Despicable 2 looks good; I didn't see the first in cinema but i plan to see this one in the cinema ^_^ Of course my parents are Star Trek fans so they defiantly want to see Star Trek 2 in the cinema and I'm certainly game to see it there. Only 2 weeks til that I also like the look of R.E.D 2, again another film were i liked the first but never saw it in the cinema and so i plan to see this one at the cinema. Man of Steel...... no just no. Thor 2 looks pretty good just from the teaser Trying to think of any films that I've forgotten, I think Smurfs 2 is out this year and I liked the first 1 and thankfully I had my nephews with me as my excuse to see it. The Wolverine is out in July but I cant help but think I'll wait til it comes out on dvd and buy it on the cheap. I don't know how I feel about Kick-Ass 2, there are parts of it that look like the comic but for the most part it doesn't quite look the same. The funny thing is I'm ok if it isn't quite the same since there are quite a few f**ked up parts in the comic that I'd have a hard time watching in a film. Will say Red Mist's (i cant say his villain name here ^_^;; ) outfit just looks wrong in this film. They made it look ok at the end of the first one but it soooooo looks wrong in this one. Also the actor for the Red Mist is a little wrong as I'm sorry as good as he is I couldn't believe him to the evil character that Red Mist is. Then again they did tone his character down in the first film so maybe it wont make a difference here. Anyway trying to decide if I want to watch this at all.

Watched Les Miserables this evening. Read the book many years ago, but never been to see the musical. Film was pretty good, the singing a mixed bag, but the overall spectacle rather stirring. Still no idea just who Les is though, nor why he's miserable
