I'm Currently reading Azumanga, and although I am enjoying it, I can't get used to the Yonkomo page style, So I have decided to start this thread to ask:
Do you prefer the Yonkomo layout or the Traditional Layout for manga? And Explain.
Would you go as far to not read it if its in the (*insert disliked layout*) Style?
*Add anything else you want to comment on*
Examples of the Yonkomo Layout: Azumanga K-on Lucky Star
Examples of the Traditional Layout: Haruhi Suzumiya Higurashi When they Cry Sailor Moon

Yonkomo or 4koma is a pretty simple style to read for your short comedic manga's but it wouldnt work with most types of manga as its restricts things abit much.

Well I've just finished B Gata H Kei which is the first series that I had read in the 4 panel format and I found it quite easy to read, however I'm still having trouble reading Is this a Zombie which is in the traditional style because it has these thin panels very close to the spine that often contain two speech bubbles which seemingly either are to be read together or actually fit in later on the page. For me the style doesn't really matter as long as the story flows properly and I think that poor panel layout in the traditional style can be quite distracting. Noodle.

I understand what you mean with speech bubbles noodle, esp when there close to the spine and stupedly small font size (glares at higurashi) I'm not trying to single out 4 Pannel with this thread, but I do feel the Traditional style flows better over the page and makes it a more natural way to read. I'm going to continue with Azumanga upto end of volume one and update my oppinions on 4 pannel.

I think it depends on what you're reading. My EVA phone charms came with mini 4koma strips and were a nice giggle but I've read things like Kurosagi and Ikigami that just wouldn't work with that style.

I remember when I first started reading Manga in the traditional style, I actually had to look it up on the internet and seeing the arrows going all over the place, it looked like a drunks route home from the pub . Even now though I still get a bit confused with some of the panel layouts . Also I've remembered that "The adventures of the mini Goddesses" in the back of the AMG were also 4 panel but they weren't a series. Noodle.

I thought you would like that one. I'll have to check out Lucky Star, as for some reason it keeps cropping up whenever people talk about Manga/Anime. Noodle.

I'll have to check out Lucky Star, as for some reason it keeps cropping up whenever people talk about Manga/Anime. Proberly for the wrong reasons aswell, Bandai were translating/distro LS in the states and randomly dropped the series at vol.8 whats kinda annoying when the series is only 9 volumes long So the manga is not only expencive but its also incomplete, such a shame
