Mass Effect: retribution, the third and last novel written by game series creator Drew Karpyshyn(the fourth being a piece of crap written by some work for hire hack thats currently awaiting a corrected reprint after a huge amount of complaints forced bioware to order a recall), so far its not to bad and fills in a few bits of background details that make the revelations in the early part of Mass Effect 3 make sense.

Four Minute Warning by Bob Clarke.
Fascinating account of Britain's Cold War, covers the political, military, social and hardware aspects in a very readable style.

Four Minute Warning by Bob Clarke. Fascinating account of Britain's Cold War, covers the political, military, social and hardware aspects in a very readable style. Sounds interesting. The role of Britain in the Cold War is often overlooked by other nations who tend to solely focus on the Soviet Union or the USA. I would have loved it my Dad had got a posting to Berlin while the wall was up but I've only visited just after the wall came down. Noodle.

One of my favorite books, SM Sterlings - Dies the fire.
The Change occurred when an electrical storm centered over the island of Nantucket produced a blinding white flash that rendered all electronic devices and fuels inoperable. What follows is the most terrible global catastrophe in the history of the human race-and a Dark Age more universal and complete than could possibly be imagined.
It follows two groups. One hippy-wichcrafters and the other a family who's plane goes down in the middle of nowhere with their pilot.
The only issue is he author keeps going on about how fantastic one guys knife is. That's not a problem as I'm into bushcraft and I very much like a nice knife. My issue is he calls it a puuko, it's not its a Leuku. Its bigger basically, I know as I own a couple of both.
It's not a massive thing, but the book has had a good bit of research put into it, it's easy to see that. But that's a pretty big mistake to make.

Currently I'm on about a 66% "completion" rate with my books, normally the third I give up I can't get into after the first couple chapters
One which is near completed is The Burnt House by Faye Kellerman, IIRC it was an Asda £1 January sale special, well worth it.

Just finished Romance of the Three Kingdoms and what i've learnt from reading it is...they behead and execute generals and miniters far to easily and for such stupid reasons, surprised they had anyone to fight wars and run the country. They swoon a lot, believe defectors far too easily.

Yeah it's kind of strange that japan took to the story so much considering it's a bit rubbish compared to some of their own legendary tales, i guess the swooning and betrayals awoke the inner bishi within every japanese male

Recently finished 1984 by... oh, you know who by.
For such an important figurehead in the history of literature it... wasn't perfect.
Starts off well with the oppression and laying out the rules of this world. But then about halfway through things grind to a halt with a worrying focus on the book Winston reads. I also feel like criticising the ending, but only because it felt too easy an ending (perhaps its point), rather than anything more adventurous. Things I thought were going to happen didn't.
Perhaps in its place of Literary Classic it's a case of 'Did It First', rather than anything more substantial with the concept.
A good book, oh no doubt, but perhaps... less remarkable in its actual focus on concept over content.
4/5
EDIT: Recently finished Spice and Wolf: Volume 5.
Not the best light novel in the series, and that's a shame since the crux of the plot was about the relationship ties between Lawrence and Holo. It's most certainly a necessary story... just not crucial for entertainment purposes.

Homeland by Cory Doctorow. The follow-up to the excellent Little Brother of a few years ago. Entirely plausible and frightening tale of how big business corrupts government for it own ends... Expect to feel very paranoid after reading it... >.< And, as ever, he's released it under a Creative Commons licence, so you could just download it (and all his books) from his website, as well as buying it in regular bookshops. I tend to buy the physical copy to read at home, and d/l the soft copy to store on lappy and tablet to read when I'm on the move. EDIT: Hmmm.... not hugely happy with the rather abrupt ending to Homeland... it just comes across as hurried and unfinished with pretty much every plotline left hanging... meh. The detail of the book is awesome and the set-up reall works, but simply fails to deliver on that build-up.

I heard that some people inadvertently reading books which is stupid. I like reading too and there's a quote about reading:
Reading=Knowledge=Power. Well everyone (on this forum and/or all forums) has the power to read, if you understand.
