Thought that for tonight's snacking I would upload a picture so you can actually see that I am eating what I say I'm eating and plus it's been a while since I used photobucket anyway. The Pocky in the image is actually the Chinese variety and oddly enough it not from Hong Kong, maybe Gilco have a manufacturing facility in China as stuff form Hong Kong tends to marked PRC (I think that's for The People's Republic of China). The other stuff is actually the Jack'nJill Chicharron mork (mock+pork) scratchings. Why they had to make them pork flavour is beyond me. If you find them though they are actually quite nice. Noodle.

Found a bag of Hi-Chew that I bought ages ago. Didn't realise that it had a new flavour in it, Melon. Only ever had Apple, Grape and Strawberry before. Great sweets that actually taste like the fruit. Noodle.

I think that they are actually called a soft/chewable candy as opposed to a hard candy. I really need to sort out my finances and get Nottingham soon, I think I've only got less then 10 boxes of Pocky. Noodle.

Stop tormenting me!. I really want to get to Nottingham now. But I'll show you when I make my Onigiri, eventually, maybe soon, some time in the future.
How does it taste?. Because I've seen those packets on the shelf and often thought about getting one. Noodle.

It's not the pre-made sauce, but the roux blocks. I'm trying about a half dozen different types to see which is best - I tend to have to add lots of chilli though - even the 'Hot' ones are mild to Western tastes (never mind Asian and South American). Cost wise they seem expensive, but you get two blocks of four cubes. The full quantities need both blocks but will feed 6-8 people. Still I think they are more expensive in Tescos etc. I might actually be hitting Japan Centre tomorrow or Thursday for a partial restock, will try to look out for price then. Oh the microwave and pour over versions are expensive. Oh taste wise - closer to Chinese curries but without the white pepper. Or another way of looking at them is they are closer to classical British Raj curries - sweater and milder with fruits and honey (in some) added. Still very much a comfort food though, and a good one if you're with people who can't take heat. Edit - Link to Japan Centre Curries

Now you're both ganging up on me aren't you . Hopefully I'll be able to get some Oriental goodness soon. I'll have to have another look at the Japan Centre website but I remember them being more expensive then Asiana and Oriental Mart. Noodle.

Time to bring out the heavy hitter. After my trip into Nottingham I picked up an Okonomiyaki dinner kit and here is my attempt. I decided that as well as the usual cabbage(not lettuce) and spring onion I added peppers and fresh hot and spicy Pepperami. I didn't bother with the pork and instead chose 6 rashers of smoked back bacon. Trying to actually turn this monster over required the use of two tea trays as it was about 13 inches across, it's a good job that I decide against the noodles as I was stuffed after eating it. Genuine Japanese mayo was used along with proper okonmiyaki sauce. Next time I make this I won't cut the cabbage too fine and will make 2 smaller ones as they will be easier to flip. Really good fun to make and very nice to eat. The kit I used was made by Otafuku. Noodle.
