Thanks Kirei. I'm fortunate enough to be able to get into Nottingham quite often which has a very large Asian community and they often have a lot of seasonal stock imported. I think one of the last things that I posted on the old Neo website was a Chinese New Year good luck box with candied fruits and veg.
Tonight I've had Salted Tamarind and Chilli and Vinegar flavour Chicharron. Now I'll be honest with you the Salted Tamarind actually looked like sticky cat turds and were very bitter, I'm not sure if they are supposed to look or taste like that but an alternative use for Tamarind is as a metal polish (yes, really) so these little fruits are going to polish my insides up something lovely. As for the Chicharron these are the same mock crackling made from green peas but with an amazing chilli kick. Yum Yum Yum.

Hmmm... lets see. Well there was a box of Green Tea Pocky, very nice. A packet of Hot and Spicy Seaweed deep fried in Tempura also very nice. Hello Kitty Chocolate Yan Yan, ok so I only bought this because it was Hello Kitty (sometimes cuteness melts the coldest of hearts). And finally a bottle of Ramune lemonade that I found hiding behind a sauce bottle at the back of the fridge, scared the crap out of the cat when it went POP!. Lovely.

Nothing too fancy tonight, just some peanut butter mochi from Taiwan and some strawberry Pocky from Thailand. Going to be making another run into Nottingham on Friday as I've only got 13 boxes of Pocky left.

You'll have to let us know what you think of them as there is a great debate as to whether they count as Pocky or not. Anyway I'm having Taro flavour Mochi and Wasabi flavour Seaweed deep fried in Tempura. I was quite surprised by the Mochi as they look like they were the last ones of the shift and not their usual nice even shape. As for the Seaweed......hot,hot!,HOT!!.......yum. Noodle.

for my oppinion on normal choc Mikado vs pocky,,,, Mikado seem a bit drier than pocky, but there isn't really a difference (Same product, Different brand name) Both taste equally as nice when being dipped into a nice warm cuppa coffee I think Mikado is also slighly larger than Pocky, but I havent had them in a while For the Daim Bar Mikado: Overall delicious

Strange, because for me they do taste different with Pocky having a slightly orange taste with a hint of coffee. We shall have to wait for "Dear Leader's" say on the matter. As for me tonight just some more Mango and Milk flavour Mousse Pocky and some BBQ flavour corn chips from the Philippines. Noodle.

Well, they're made by the same company (Glico). Soreally, the only major difference in my opinion is in the name.
The Daim bar Mikado were OK...not very Daimy. I prefer Strawberry pocky.

Well, they're made by the same company (Glico). Soreally, the only major difference in my opinion is in the name. While that may be true Mikado are actually made in Europe under license from Glico and because of EU regulations the recipes could actually be quite different if the Glico Pocky has ingrediants which may be banned/controlled by the EU. That's the reason why we only get the dull flavours of Pop Tarts like Strawberry and Chocolate, while the Americans get Cookie Dough and Fudge Brownie flavours. The reason for that is the high content of HFCS or Fructose Corn Syrup which is a controlled additive in food made in the EU but is legal in America and it's not illegal to import it into the EU but if you are buying any American food you should really be careful and check what's in it. Not that I'm ripping on the Americans but more a case of buyer beware. Noodle.

I had a fondle of a packet of Mikado in Tesco and they are actually made in France.
Tonight I'm having Mini Green Tea Egg Rolls from the October Fifth Bakery in Macau and some Koh-Kae BBQ flavour coated Peanuts from Thailand. It would appear that the October Fifth Bakery is a new line that my supply shop is stocking and based on these I will be trying the rest of the range. They're just like Brandy Snaps but made with green tea and are quite moreish. As for the peanuts they are really nice and have a smokey and spicy flavour and a good crunch. One day I'll have to try the Wasabi Peas.

Just a box of Green Tea Pocky and some Wife Cakes. I really love Wife Cakes, they're Melon and Coconut flavour and have an interesting legend as to their creation. I'm not going to tell you though as the story is on the net. I was hoping to have something more interesting but I'll save them for a later date. Noodle.

After my moan I decided to have a look in my bags to see what I could have tonight. Clearly something healthy was in order so I pulled out some Jujube and Cuttlefish snacks (Ok so the Cuttlefish snacks were crisps but they have 0g Trans Fat so that make them healthy ) If you're wondering what Jujube are, they are actually Chinese Dates (not the ones in the pop-up ads) and they are actually smaller and have a more subtle flavour then the middle eastern ones. The ones I bought were already stoned and very sticky. I'm sure that I'll buy some more of these fruit snacks as I imagine that candying them is the only way to preserve them. The Cuttlefish snacks were by a company called Nong Shim and these are certainly of a better quality then some of my previous snacks. The snacks themselves are actually shaped like the Cuttlefish as if they were being cooked on a BBQ and have a really fishy smell to them and a really nice taste which is not as overpowering as the smell would have you believe. I would recommend eating the Jujube with a toothpick as it's hard to type with sticky fingers. Tomorrow will either be indigestion or maybe something a bit safer, who knows?. Noodle.

Finished off the last of Wife Cakes and opened up a box of Green Tea Mochi. I really love my Mochi and while Green Tea is certainly good I still have a soft spot for the traditional Red Bean filling. I'm not sure what I'm going to have next, maybe something fruity and something in a weird crisp flavour.
