chapter 1
there was a woods more like a forest that spread so far and wide it took over a whole country in that forest there were clear springs flowing into it but soon they changed the further in you went the thinker wider greener the water and streams seemed to get in the centre was one enormous swamp it flowed around the trees in most places but some times the trees got less and less if you could sail in a boat in this swamp you could easily not see trees for possibly hours of course the fog that hung over the swamp wasn’t much help but this was a place with a lot of wildlife you could hear sometimes see insects day and night fish splashing frogs and toads crocking birds and bats monkeys and bigger more dangerous animals but not humans no humans may have entered the forest if so they didn’t get very far and were most likely never heard or seen again it seemed to always be hot in the forest hot and wet and foggy even the rain had a strange heat to it green was the colour of the forest it seemed to get everywhere this colour it flowed through the forest like blood in veins as if the forest was some immense living creature deep deep in the forest in the swamp actually there was movent under the water something that at first sight looked like weeds sploshed up the surface but it didn’t stop something come up out of the water a head the weeds had been hair long dark green hair eyes searched around the head was more than a head it looked human and also had a body tho it was mostly hidden under the dark water the female started to swim heading for dry land slowly the woman climbed out of the swamp like the forest she had become or perhaps always was green her hair long and wet clung and covered her almost naked body her skin pail but pail greed her eyes were bright green in fact they had a strange shine to them like a dim torch leaving a dull green light where ever she looked May was wearing something that looked like a lily pad she had it tied on with vines where her legs met other than that she was naked as the day she was born if she was born May couldn’t seem to remember such things nor care she was wild her wet hair fell to her navel she looked around in the gloom a frog hoped onto her feet this was a mistake of course on the frogs part May leaned down and snatched up the frog she ripped its head of with her teeth and ate it not just the head but the whole frog except the bones which she chewed on as she started to walk on some of the driest parts of the forest her feet squelched in the greenish mud it was hard to walk on the mud it seemed to want to keep you there forever and never let anyone go there were bones and skulls dotted around animals that had been caught by the mud most likely but May was strong and she would not be held it felt weird to walk tho she was more of a swamp swimmer than a mud walker but she heard something a voice in the distance she had not heard voices in years not even her own tho she could speak it just hadn’t been necessary for her to do so in such a long time May stopped her torch like eyes darted around looking for something was it the voice no that was still so far away May grabbed a low hanging branch and pulled her self up maybe to see better but the fog was all around and she could see no further than on the ground she sat on the branch and tried to talk
“h hello” she said in a pretty almost girlish voice but there was no answer not unless animal and insect noises count May tried to understand the voice what was it saying what was the tone was it male female she didn’t know it was just so distant then she realised if it was so far away how could she hear it at all the forest could seem such an empty place sometimes but it was never silent not with the wildlife just as she thought that a bird took flight making a branch shake it squawked before it was gone May looked up she couldn’t see the sky at all here some places in the swamp you could where the trees were less but this was a very tree rich area and they blocked out so much of the world above even light for the most part the trees them selves could be noisy shaking in the wind leaves rustling and sometimes a tree might fall that was noisy was the voice even real May wasn’t sure now but the more she thought it couldn’t be the realer it sounded closer it was saying
“help me help me” a boys voice not a man’s it was too young it sounded real she could hear the pain in it the sadness and the need
“who are you” she asked “where are you” no answer “are you real” she sighed “are you any where... do you need me”
“help me” said the boys voice “help me help my mother”
“your mother” May wasn’t completely sure on that word she had to think mother was that a woman like her self but not quite it was different because May wasn’t a mother was it a woman with something else...what was it a child a woman that had a child that was a mother so he was her child and she his mother his giver of life his protector his god but she was the one who needed help a boys god was in trouble May wasn’t one for sympathy or much in the way of feelings at all really she didn’t need them she was wild an animal she lived she ate and drunk she killed for her life she swam she walked she watched she was alone and she felt for possibly the first time sad not for her self not ever but for the boy what was wrong what happened to his mother why did she need help May spoke “what is wrong”
“my mother” the boy sobbed May slipped down from the branch
“I am Mayhem and I will course chaos to my enemy’s I can help you if I can find you”
