Been listening to the Rush studio albums between Signals and Test for Echo in preparation for their London gig later this month where they're dragging out lots of their synth stuff (I will kill people if I don't get their set with Bravado, The Body Electric and Manhattan Project!)

Frank Turner's latest long player, 'Tape Deck Heart', has been gracing my playlist in recent days. Less rabble-rousing anthemic-ness, more maudlin self-introspection. Still v.good though.

I picked up Daft Punk's latest offering the other day for a pleasing £3.99 and am quite enjoying it.

Listening to Kraftwerk's Minimum Maximum in German, so "Wir sind die Roboter" instead of "We are the Robots" then.

My alphabetical (by track) run through my mp3 player's contents brought me to 'No...' this morning.
- One of the most haunting songs I've heard... love it (and the band, Bright Eyes) to bits.
- New Model Army's brief flirt with success led to this Top of the Pops moment back in 1985
- Hole, Northern Star live from Brixton a couple of years back - very powerful stuff.
- Not for Want of Trying by awesome post-rock noise merchants Maybeshewill.

I rather like Abney Park, even though sometimes their steampunkiness feels a tad forced. If you fancy some steamPUNK music, check out The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing.

Captain robert literally lives steampunk from what i can gather so if it seems forced its probably not coming from that guy You should have gone to the abney park site chaotico, they have the complete discography there for a really reasonable price for digital downloads(you get literally everythign besides there forthcoming album for like 50 bucks).

Oh I know that the good Cap'n is pretty much a full-time steampunk, so it's possibly more down to them being 'mer'kin (and therefore automatically 'The Best Steampunk Band In The Known Universe' - and yes, I have seen them thus described on more than one occasion...). Yes they are definitely steampunk and yes, they are quite good. But they represent just one style of music associated with steampunk - in reality there *isn't* a defined SP sound. Saw AP 2 years ago at an event, headlining over The Men (...That, etc, etc) and I have to say The Men blew them off stage. But that might just be my preference for punk over world music?? (AP I'd put in the 'World Music' genre) Anyways.... mp3 playlist has reached 'Some', so today's commute included: Some Strange Reaction - Firewater Someone Like Jesus - New Model Army Someone to Talk To - Screaming Blue Messiahs Something in the Way - Nirvana Something Wicked - British Sea Power Sometimes - Erasure
