There is a reasonably famous comic/manga called Megatokyo which depicts the story of some Americans stranded in Japan. The writer wanted to do a VN of the series and decided to put it on Kickstarter, but was not expecting the response he got. 4,958 backers $299,184 pledged of $20,000 goal You can view progress and updates on the game on the Megatokyo VN Website Here's the first proof of concept:

Only the second Kickstarter I've supported (the other being The Morrow Project RPG). Been reading Megatokyo since day 1, literally. It was advertised on PvP as Rod Caston was a real world friend of Scott Kurtz, so I clicked on the link to see what it was like and promptly added it to my list of daily reads.

Yup, backed this to the tune of $35 the day it went live. MT is a fun read and the chance to be Piro in a VN... awesome! Just a shame Fred wasn't forced to add the Excessively Romantic Content
