Like the time he retired after Princess Mononoke? And after Spirited Away? And Howl's Moving Castle?

Maybe because there hasn't been an EdSec as... uncaring, unbending, uninformed and just plain odious as Govie is, within in living memory. his whole philosophy seems to be based entirely around his experience at a decent grammar school, with no regard for how state schools actually operate in most cities. Endless targets, H&S twaddle, league tables, endless testing and paperwork... plus teachers wages are pitifully low (given they are educating the country's future...) as are their pensions. My other half is a teacher (and the NUT rep for her school) and support for this industrial action is 100% solid. That said... I'm sure teachers at one of my schools did go on strike, but that would have been in those glorious strike-filled days of the 1970s XD

Meh... never really rated his work. I've always preferred Takahata's movies under the Ghibli banner.

I wonder what the percentage turnout was for the vote for strike action
I bet it was something silly like 25%.

The carrier bag tax in England, Clegg hopes the profits will go to charity.
What would happen is that 1p in every 5p will go to the supermarkets preferred charity of the month/year the rest eaten up by 'overheads'.
Supermarkets are all for it, means they don't have to give out 'free' bags anymore, they will get paid twice (one indirectly with the cost of the goods and directly with the 5p)
