Hey all, after popping the button off a pair of fairly new trousers I decided I was gonna get fit a few months ago. I've been exercising 5 days a week since then (as well as riding my bike to and from work) and I've been on a diet twice (two 30 day long ones) and I've gone from 86.6kg (13.6 stone) to 77.2 kg (12.2 stone) (basically i've gone from only feeling comfy in large t-shirts to being able to wear small ones if I'm feeling particularly confident that day and hopefully I'm gonna keep on losing some more). Anywhom, i just thought if there was anyone else who was thinking about trying to get a bit healthier then we could all try to support each other and give ideas and whatnot to help each other out :-)

If anyone can think of any intresting idea's on how to quit smoking. It would be a help Switching to e-cigs has worked for me - haven't smoked a real ciggy for over 3 months. E-cigs give you the nicoteen hit without the associated death. Look out for groupon deals on starter kits, we got the SKYCIG 'Freedom' pack for about half it's usual £50 price. In fact, as I've swapped from that to a different vaping rig, my SKYCIG set is sitting here unused with 2 batteries and 4 fresh 'tobacco' cartridges, if you're interested?? Each cartridge is equivalent to approx 10-15 normal cigs and available in a range of flavours. Batteries are rechargable and last about 1.5-2 hours of puffing per charge. While not as cheap as claimed, it is still cheaper (and healthier) than normal cigs.

Swimming is a good exercise, very low impact and during these warm days very nice

I tried swimming for a while, but was always too lazy to make it a regular thing (always enjoyed it though). I was thinking about doing some martial arts type classes but coz my shifts change every week and I do 12 hour shifts I wouldn't be able to go to anything on a regular basis :-( I've gotten by alright just doing a load of exercise programs I found on YouTube though :-) And I've never smoked but good luck giving up :-) My father gave up smoking 12 years ago and I know it can be really really hard but think of all the extra stuff you could get with all the moolah you save :-D soooo much anime :-D

Since I started doing all this overtime, my exercise program has gone down hill Previously I was in the gym/pool 4/5 times a week, for the last few weeks (excluding the week I had off) it's been once/twice

This is a great idea. One of our members, who I know from elsewhere is currently doing what he calls Project Iron Man which is a tailored extreme weight loss and fitness plan.
I went on the 5:2 Diet in December of last year after the effects not being able to do my martial arts any more (due to asthma) began to REALLY show. Between then and May (so about 6 months) I lost about 2.5 Stone. I wasn't doing any exercise at all and my meal portions were HUGE.
Now, I walk 4 miles home each week day and my portion sizes are significantly reduced (but I'm not dieting any more). I'm not losing weight as quickly now but I feel this will benefit me in the long run.

I've been doing some weight training over the past few weeks, just going for stamina really as I don't think I have the frame for the totally buff look. At first the exercises were a real killer and I didn't look at all different but the exercises have actually easier and I've actually lost a little weight. Still have keg rather then a 6 pack but hey ho. Noodle.

Gah... since my bike failed a few weeks back, I've been getting the bus from the station... so only getting half the exercise >.> I do want to shift some weight - a few other friends have also recommended the 5:2 diet, which I think we could easily manage. And 'gratz on the quitting, kitteh-kun

I've been losing a pound every couple of weeks from a combination of not eating that much when I'm at work which is probably helped that outside of the multitude of chip shops (where I only get chips if I get anything) there is only a KFC in terms of fast food (which I find fairly expensive) and they're all at least five minutes walk away from my office and I've been jogging/running on the morning to the bus and taking the bus one or two stops past my office (the bus stops right outside) and walking back over.
Definitely gotten healthier, I had to run to the next bus stop (bus didn't stop at mine) and ended up doing a fifth of a mile in 45 seconds earlier on today. I was knackered after doing it but I managed it.

Most swimming pools have gone that way, the local formerly council owned pool has turned into a fitness center with the stupidly high prices to match..nearest not ruined one is now about 2 hours away by bus and useless most days during school terms coz its shut to the public(frickin schools still teaching kids to swim, let em drown there's more than enough to take there place as it is lol)
