^ The film is a bit meh but I have heard the musical version in various forms for years before seeing it. If you can stand all the "Squee!" girls and people generally crying, try and see it on the stage, they normally can sing (with one exception when I went, someone was way too nasally).
Watched Buster Keaton's Sherlock Jr, it's not his best feature film (even he agreed and cut it down to 45 minutes) but it's fascinating to watch the stunts and camera tricks he used.

Watched The Dictator today. Not a bad film but then again not a good one either. Sacha Baron Cohen films tend to have the problem of being films that I only need to see once and that's it. It raised a few laughs, much like Ali G and Borat did, but that was it really. Noodle.

Trafic: Jacques Tati's final film with his Monsieur Hulot character (the main inspiration for Mr Bean), definitely not as good as the other Hulot films (Les Vacances de M. Hulot, Mon Oncle and Playtime) but that's a high standard to try and hit again, a mixture of laugh out loud and observational comedy but drags out a bit too much even at a run time just over an hour 30.
6/10.

Watched The Deer Hunter today. I'm not sure why people rate this so highly as a war film as to honest you with there is not much action in it. Just a bunch of people deer hunting at the start, the scene with Russian Roulette and then back to America for a bit before going back to Saigon for another game of Russian Roulette. If you want a good war you really need to the Germans as they produce some of the best films, no glory hunting no over the top patriotism just you're here and welcome to hell. For two examples see Das Boot and Stalingrad. Noodle.

Olympus Has Fallen 3/10 Dull, predictable and bad cgi sums up this unimpressive film.

A Field in England: A film shot on a small budget and released on VOD, DVD/Blu-ray, Cinema and TV at the same time and I'm thankful that I didn't do the former three. It's a group of men in a field during the Civil War and magic mushrooms are involved, not going to say more to avoid spoilers but to me it's like two movies attached together, a decent and promising first part followed by a shoddy second part which just ruins the film (I call it the From Dusk Till Dawn effect). It looks pretty enough but a little flat as it's just colour digital video with the colour stripped out, not black and white film. 4/10 Warning: Don't watch it if you get headaches with strobe effects, I can watch that banned Pokemon episode unscathed and I got a headache watching bits of this film.

Just came back from seeing This is the End in the cinema. Incredible film, well worth going to see, my fave film of the year so far (and the ending is absolutely hilarious). Going to see the Internship tomorrow :-( Don't particularly want to though

I really want to see that. Probably Saturday night.
I've had a couple of weeks off work, a holiday to just do nothing.
I've seen Man of steel, to effect heavy and lacks story, but is better than I was expecting. 5/10
Grown ups. Might because I was a bit drunk, but considering the "actors" in it it was pretty entertaining. 6/10
Black Rock. Meh, predictable and poorly acted and directed, this kind of film really need to be directed by a man and not hold back. Also I'm all for some attractive women getting naked, but the brief nakedness in the felt like it was to try and get people to watch it. I'll spoil why they are naked, two get wet in cold water, they take off there clothes and use each other to warm up. 3/10 that's only because it looked nice.
More of a documentary, Dick Proenneke - Alone in the Wilderness - Part 2. He retired at 51 moved up to Alaska, built a log cabin single handed and lived there for the rest of his life which was 30 years. Its a follow up set a year after he got there. 10/10 I love this type of thing.

Monsters University: An alright watch, not really needed, it's nice for a few scenes that foreshadows Monsters Inc but it really needed more stuff about the University in my mind like the modern art bit seen in the trailer. I was more impressed looking at the hair and fabric textures/animation at times [/sad animation man mode]
7/10

Saw Pacific Rim on Wednesday night. Brilliant film. love the music. It really made me want to watch Godzilla. Clocked references to a host of great mech anime and old kaiju movies. Del Toro deserves a hug

The World's End: The final part of the Blood Cornetto Trilogy (Mint for this one), it's not as funny as the others but is more emotional and serious than the other two.
It has the usual lot of actors from Spaced/Shaun/Fuzz in it with little cameos, standard foreshadowing you get with Edgar Wright (who implements it best in recent years) and lots of little callbacks to the other two films with little things like the Fruit Machine from Shaun of the Dead making a quick appearance.
A good film, but unlike the other two films, I'm not sure I'll be running out at the first chance to get a copy. 8/10.

The Worlds End.
Damn... that was one fine movie.
Might just be I'm exactly the right age to properly 'get' the movie... so much rang true against recollections of pub crawls I participated in my late teens (albeit without blue-filled blanks... I hope >.> ). The soundtrack was inspired and totally fit (especially hearing the Inspiral Carpets on the jukebox... so very appropriate to that scene and action).
I'd say it's probably my fave of the trilogy (SotD 2nd and HF third).
10/10
Oh.. and has anyone told Wright and Pegg that there are, in fact, FIVE main flavours of cornettos?? So we're owed two more films, please!
